The lack of educational equality is a major challenge facing remote communities in Nepal. Rural schools lack resources, and they are also most prone to the exclusion of girls from school. We’re sensitively tackling these inequalities in partnership with the communities we work with.

In the 2020s, sadly it remains the case that many girls in Nepal are effectively excluded from school once they start menstruating. A simple gift of a washable period kit is all it takes for a girl to be able to complete her education.

The lack of resources is a major block to development in rural communities. Computers and IT skills are the most important factors in bringing rural education up to the standards enjoyed by city children.

Small donations, huge differences

YYY Foundation was started by Sera & Sarah Gurung following the 2015 earthquakes. In the beginning it was simply a matter of friends and family giving money to help and has grown from there into a registered charity that continuously raises funds to aid the poorest and most marginalised castes in Nepal. We aim to work in partnership with local communities, to help them to become self-sustained and avoid the aid dependency trap.
